AIDS Awareness Week - 24th November to 1st December

AIDS Awareness Week begins Monday 24th November, and concludes with World AIDS Day on Monday 1st December.

The week raises awareness about HIV/AIDS issues in our community.

This years theme is 'Enjoy Life. Take Control. Stop HIV/AIDS'.

October, November and December – Red Ribbon Sales

Selling red ribbons and wrist-bands to your friends and colleagues during October, November and December to raise funds for the Victorian AIDS Council. The money you raise will be used to support the on-going work of the Victorian AIDS Council in the areas of HIV/AIDS prevention, education and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS.

To order a box of World AIDS Day merchandise, please call 03 9865 6700 (or 1800 134 840 for country callers), or to e-mail, please click here. Each box contains a mix of ribbons, wrist-bands and enamel badges and is provided on a sale or return basis.

November 10 – 30th Photographic exhibition

“About Face – turning the tide on HIV/AIDS in South Africa” is a photographic exhibition by Katie Langmore. The work is a series of portraits from a range of HIV/AIDS projects in South Africa.

The exhibition can be found in the theatre foyer of the Gasworks Art Park, 21 Graham Street, Albert Park.

The exhibition opening will be on Monday 24 November 2008 from 6pm to 8pm at the Foyer, Gasworks Arts Park, Corner Graham and Pickles Streets, Albert Park.

Red Ribbon Street Appeal Friday November 28

The red ribbon street appeal will be held on Friday November 28th. Volunteers sell red ribbons and wristbands throughout Melbourne to raise money for us.

The Victorian AIDS Council is now calling for people interested in volunteering on the day to contact us by phoning 9865 6700 or emailing here fundraising@vicaids.asn.au

Drama Down Under Show, Friday November 28, 11:30pm

Victorian AIDS Council Health Promotion Team present the Drama Down Underwear Show at the Market Hotel.

Film night, Sunday November 30

The Victorian AIDS Council presents an Open-Air Cinema Screening of Shortbus at JOY’s rooftop garden.

Monday 1st December – Worlds AIDS Day

World AIDS Day Memorial Event

The World AIDS Day Memorial and Life Celebration Ceremony will be held at the Positive Living Centre, 51 Commercial Road, Prahran, 5.30pm entry for a 6pm start.

Entertainment, speakers, and light refreshments will be provided.
