The Outreach Project is an important part of the VAC/GMHC’s Health Promotion Program. Its main purpose is to improve the sexual health skills and knowledge of gay and homosexually active men who use gay social venues, beats (public sex environments), on-line cruising web-sites and saunas and other SOPV's (sex-on-premises venues) for social and sexual purposes.
Health Educators from the VAC/GMHC Health Promotion Team regularly visit beats and SOPV's, in order to provide sexual health information through face-to-face discussion and the distribution of sexual health information, condoms, and water-based lubricant. This form of outreach is particularly useful in providing sexual health information to non gay-identified men, and other homosexually active men, who may not have access to this information through regular 'gay' outlets. Most sex-venues we visit display a notice to indicate when we'll next be there to answer any questions clients may may have.
The Health Promotion Team also currently runs an outreach project in which trained volunteers make themselves available to answer men's sexual health questions on-line on gay cruising web-sites.
For further information about the project, please call the VAC/GMHC on 03 9865 6700 (or free-call 1800 134 840 for country callers). Or to e-mail us, please click here.
We also encourage you to click on the link below to the VAC site 'Cruising', which will tell you everything you need to know about cruising, health, and sex.
