Negative partner’s group

The negative partner’s group is a ten-week group for HIV negative gay male partners of HIV positive gay men. The group provides a forum for HIV negative men to discuss with others issues they are experiencing.

The negative partner’s group provides a safe and supportive environment where men can gain access to information and receive support, which will enable them to make informed decisions around relationship and sexual issues.

The premise of the negative partner’s group is that sero-discordant relationships should be affirmed, supported and celebrated, while exploring the uniqueness and diversity of these relationships, within a therapeutic and educational setting.

The aims of the negative partner’s group are:

  • To provide a forum to discuss sero-discordant relationships issues in a non—judgmental environment
  • To explore and acknowledge the diverse needs within a relationship and to separate relationship based issues from issues of HIV or sero-discrodance
  • To develop skills and confidence in communication and negotiation around relationship issues including HIV and safer sex practices
  • For couples to make informed decisions about safer sex and the development of stronger relationships
